Coming Soon... The 2nd Annual MARCH FOR A CURE PowerWalk-athon!

Cancer is a bitch. And it needs to have its ass kicked.

We at Lead Your School want to ensure that Cancer’s ass is kicked, now!

To do this we are announcing our second annual March for A Cure campaign. For every PowerWalks classroom observation that is conducted between March 1 and March 31, 2017, LYS will donate 5¢ to the American Cancer Society.

BUT THAT’S NOT ALL…

For every campus that makes the PowerWalks Cancer Fightin’ Hero List for March, LYS will donate an additional $10.00 to the American Cancer Society.

BUT THAT’S NOT ALL…

For the top PowerWalks Cancer Fightin’ Hero Elementary School, Middle School, Alternative School, and High School in March, LYS will donate $50.00 to the American Cancer Society, in the name of the school.

BUT THAT’S NOT ALL…

For the overall top PowerWalks Cancer Fightin’ Hero School in March, LYS will donate $100.00 to the American Cancer Society, in the name of the school.

BUT THAT’S NOT ALL…

Every PowerWalks observer who conducts 200 or more classroom observations during the month of March, LYS will send you a March for a Cure t-shirt (pictured below).

Last year, the LYS Nation PowerWalked to its way to a $1,113.25 American Cancer Society donation. The goal to beat has been set, lace up you running shoes and get ready to visits a lot of classrooms as we March for a Cure!

Top LYS Tweets From the Week of February 5, 2017

If you are not following @LYSNation on Twitter, then you missed the Top 10 LYS Tweets from the week of February 5, 2017 when they were first posted.  And if you are on Twitter, you might want to check out the Tweeters who made this week’s list.

1. When a student makes a poor choice (which we all do), it's the conversation, not the consequence, that makes all the difference. (By @justintarte)

2. There's nothing conservative about "school choice" vouchers. Conservatives "conserve" proven values. Like public education for all children. (By pastors4txkids)

3. The right answer is the one that’s good enough to create imperfect progress. Get going. (By @Leadershipfreak)

4. Adequacy? Equity? Accountability? Transparency? "School choice" vouchers fail on all points. This bad policy gets an "F." (By pastors4txkids)

5. Leaders don't wait for titles. (By @Leadershipfreak)

6. "Civil rights" are forged by values of human dignity and equality taught our children every day Texas public schools. (By pastors4txkids)

7. "School choice" is Orwellian doublespeak. It's a voucher. It subsidizes the PRIVATE education of families who CAN afford it with PUBLIC tax money. (By @charlesfjohnson)

8. When pessimists win, they congratulate each other for what didn’t happen. (By @Leadershipfreak)

9. American civil liberties based on human dignity and equality are taught and modeled for children every day in traditional public schools. (By pastors4txkids)

10. Suppressing voters goes against the fundamentals of our democratic society. We must make it easier for citizens to vote — not harder. (By @KamalaHarris)

Just Measure It

A lot of the school leaders and educators that I work with are new to concept of constant, incremental growth.

Quick side notes: 1) Slow and steady progress beats the “Lightning Bolt” nine times out of ten. 2) Lighting bolts happen once. If you get one, great! That gives slow and steady a head start.

Central to the slow and steady growth construct is measuring results for the purpose of honing process.  Easy is theory, harder in practice.  Because what trips everyone up is the problem of what to measure?  In many cases the initial answer to the problem is, “who knows?”

In this situation, follow the advice of Jim Collins (Good to Great).

When you don’t know what to measure, make your best guess. Measuring something poorly or even measuring the wrong thing is first step in understanding how to measure it better in the future.

Think. Work. Achieve.
