Danielson Framework Alignment to The Foundation Trinity

Recently, I shared the alignment of Lead Your School (LYS) processes and practices to the new Texas teacher evaluation standards.  Since then, LYSers in states that have adopted/adapted the Danielson Framework as the basis for teacher evaluation have asked if I would do a similar alignment for their use.

OK.  But before I do, I just want to again remind all educators of the following:

BEST PRACTICE IS BEST PRACTICE!

For the teacher who infrequently implements known best instructional practice, he needs to get on the ball, because it is the right thing to do.  For the teacher working to increase the quantity and quality of known best instructional practice in her classroom, she is doing exactly what is expected and is on the right track with any evaluation system.

From a leadership standpoint, the campus that is working to better implement The Foundation Trinity has positioned its teachers to be ahead of the curve in meeting and exceeding Danielson Framework standards.  As proof, and to alleviate the stress being felt by some educators, I share the following abridged Danielson Framework / Foundation Trinity Alignment Summary.

Visitors Allow You to Showcase Your "A" Game

One of the great things about my job is that I get to visit and observe schools all across the country.  And due to these visits I can report that there is often a noticeable difference between the school that has regular visitors on campus and in its classrooms and the school that does not.  The difference is how “sharp” the school, rooms, teachers, and students look and act.

The correlation is more visitors = more sharp; less visitors = less sharp.  We could come up with the reasons why this is (or is not) the case, but for me it comes down to personal pride. If no one is watching, it is easier to cut a corner here and there. If someone is watching, the corner doesn’t get cut.

I don’t see this as coercive, I see this as professionals showcasing their talent.  And the reason why I make this connection is that on my travels I will often take public tours of operational plants and facilities (example: a visit to a local bottling plant).  On these tours you will notice how smoothly things operate and how sharp and professional the employees are, regardless of the industry.

When we know we have an audience, we put on a show.  The show is a good thing.  If you are a campus/district leader, provide your team and students with a random, regular audience.  Trust them with the opportunity to proudly put on a show.

PowerWalks Hero Schools (September 2015)

In furtherance of a LYS Nation tradition, we will take this time to tip our caps to the campuses that have embraced the most important step in creating and maintaining an action oriented professional learning community.  These are the campuses that have conducted an extraordinary number of formative classroom observations in a given month.  For the month of September, the PowerWalks Hero School Targets were as follows:

September Targets
High Schools – 150 PowerWalks Observations
Middle Schools / Junior High Schools – 125 PowerWalks Observations
Elementary / Intermediate / Combined Campuses – 100 PowerWalks Observations
Alternative Schools – 50 PowerWalks Observations.

With schools hitting their stride in October, we will raise the targets to the following levels:

October Hero School Targets
High Schools – 180 PowerWalks Observations
Middle Schools / Junior High Schools – 150 PowerWalks Observations
Elementary / Intermediate / Combined Campuses – 120 PowerWalks Observations
Alternative Schools – 60 PowerWalks Observations.

In September, all of the schools using the PowerWalks Instructional Observation System conducted a total of 13,401 classroom observations. A commendable job, LYS Nation! But now, without further ado, here are your twenty-nine PowerWalks Hero Schools for the month of September 2015.  Congratulations!!!
